We talk a lot about the cost of change.

Changing careers might be risky.

Starting a business might be uncertain.

Leaving something familiar can be frightening.

Taking a chance on yourself can feel uncomfortable.

But there is another cost we don’t talk about nearly enough.

The Cost of Inaction.

Because staying where you are isn’t always the safe option.

Sometimes, it is simply the familiar option.

And there is a difference.

What is staying the same costing you?

Think about something you’ve been putting off.

Perhaps you’ve wanted to change your career.

Start a business.

Have a difficult conversation.

Improve your health.

Set better boundaries.

Ask for the promotion.

Leave something that isn’t right for you.

Write the book.

Take yourself more seriously.

Whatever it is, you’ve probably told yourself a story about why now isn’t the right time.

Maybe you’re too busy.

Maybe you’re not ready.

Maybe you don’t have enough experience.

Maybe you’ll do it next year.

Maybe it’s selfish.

Maybe you don’t know exactly what you want yet.

And so another month passes.

Then another year.

And nothing changes.

This is where I want you to pause.

Not to judge yourself.

Just to ask:

What is the cost of continuing like this?

The cost isn’t always obvious

Sometimes the cost is money.

Sometimes it is opportunity.

Sometimes it is your confidence.

But sometimes it is much quieter.

It’s the frustration you feel when you know you’re capable of more.

It’s watching someone else do the thing you keep saying you want to do.

It’s losing excitement for your own future.

It’s becoming accustomed to saying “that’s just how things are”.

It’s the dreams you keep moving further into the distance.

And perhaps the biggest cost of all:

You slowly stop trusting yourself to make things happen.

That matters.

Because every time we make a promise to ourselves and repeatedly don’t act on it, something happens to our self-belief.

We start believing our own excuses.

You don’t need to change everything

This is important.

I’m not suggesting you wake up tomorrow and turn your entire life upside down.

Real change doesn’t have to be dramatic.

Sometimes the most powerful change starts with one quiet  decision.

One conversation.

One boundary.

One application.

One hour blocked out in your diary.

One idea explored.

One commitment kept.

I often talk about the power of small actions because transformation isn’t always about doing something huge.

It is about becoming someone who takes him/herself seriously enough to act.

Ask yourself three uncomfortable questions

If you’re feeling stuck, try these:

1. What am I tolerating that I know isn’t working?

Be honest.

Not what can you put up with.

What do you know needs attention?

2. What would I do if I trusted myself more?

This can be revealing.

Because often the thing standing between us and action isn’t a lack of ability.

It’s a lack of self-trust.

3. If nothing changed for the next three years, how would I feel?

This is the question I really want you to sit with.

Imagine your life three years from now.

Same job.

Same habits.

Same frustrations.

Same conversations.

Same excuses.

Same dreams still sitting in the background.

How does that feel?

Now imagine the alternative.

Not a perfect life.

Just a life where you started taking intentional action.

Where you made different choices.

Where you became more confident.

Where you stopped waiting for permission.

Which future do you want?

Your future is being shaped today

We sometimes think our future will be determined by one big decision.

Usually, it isn’t.

It’s shaped by what we repeatedly do.

What we tolerate.

What we prioritise.

What we believe.

What we avoid.

What we say yes to.

And what we finally decide is no longer acceptable.

Because staying the same is also a decision.

What will you do differently?

Don’t finish reading this and simply think, “That was interesting.”

Do something with it.

Write down one thing you’ve been avoiding.

Then write the smallest meaningful action you could take this week.

Put it in your diary.

Tell someone.

Do it.

That’s how change begins.

And if you know there are several areas of your life that need attention — your confidence, goals, career, habits, purpose, direction or simply your sense of who you are becoming — you may benefit from taking a more structured approach.

This is why I created Redesign.

Redesign is my guided self-coaching programme for women who are ready to stop going around in circles and start intentionally designing what comes next.

It’s practical.

It’s reflective.

It’s structured.

And most importantly, it is designed to move you from thinking about change to taking action.

You work through your own answers, your own goals and your own vision, using the methodology I’ve developed through years of coaching.

You don’t need to wait for a crisis.

You don’t need to have everything figured out.

You simply need to decide that your future deserves your attention.

Because the question isn’t only “What will change cost me?”

Sometimes the better question is:

“What will staying the same cost me?”
